Macelleria Kosher

A large underground space, dug into the tufa rock, this room is empty now, but it was once used as the Kosher butcher.

It dates back to the end of the 16th century, like most of the other sacred buildings in Pitigliano’s Jewish Ghetto.

In the museum next door you can see some of the tools the butchers used and read about the tradition of Kosher butchery.
