PITIGLIANO’S CHURCHES
An itinerary to discover the churches of Pitigliano, set in the alleys of the historic center or in a panoramic position, each sacred building tells an ancient story and houses precious works of art.
Starting from the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, the main sacred building of Pitigliano, in Baroque style, the building houses inside splendid works, statues of saints, frescoes and many paintings, the Church of San Rocco, or Santa Maria, considered the oldest in the whole town, particular because inside it stands out the coats of arms of the noble families who ruled Pitigliano, the most imposing of all, that of the Medici family of Florence.
Outside the walls, the small church of Santa Maria Assunta, with simple and harmonious lines and, a few kilometers from the village, the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, a beautiful church set between the green of the Maremma vegetation and the brown of the tuff, from the sanctuary enjoys a spectacular view of Pitigliano, especially at night.
